RESUMO

A plastic injection waste known as "purge" cannot be reintegrated into the recycling chain due to its shape, size, and composition. Grinding these cannot be carried out with traditional mills due to significant variations in size and shape. This work proposes a process and the design of a device that operates with solar energy to cut the purges without exceeding the degradation temperature. The size reduction allows reprocessing, revalorization, and handling. The purges are mixtures of processed polymers, so their characterization information is unavailable. Some characterizations were conducted before the design of the process and after the cut of the purges. Some of the most representative purges in a recycling company were evaluated. The flame test determines that all material mixtures retain thermoplasticity. The hardness (Shore D) presented changes in four of the purges being assessed, with results in a range of 59-71 before softening and 60-68 after softening. Young's modulus was analyzed by the impulse excitation technique (IET), which was 2.38-3.95 GPa before softening and 1.7-4.28 after softening. The feasibility of cutting purges at their softening temperature was evaluated. This was achieved in all the purges evaluated at 250-280 °C. FTIR allowed for corroboration of no significant change in the purges after softening. The five types of purges evaluated were polypropylene-ABS, polycarbonate-ABS-polypropylene, yellow nylon 66, acetal, and black nylon 66 with fillers, and all were easily cut at their softening temperature, allowing their manipulation in subsequent process steps.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Infants with cow's milk allergy (CMA) are in need of a substitute formula up to 2 years. The are three requisites for a substitute of milk in CMA: tolerability, nutritional adequacy, and cost-effectiveness. We evaluate here the tolerability of a new amino acid-based infant formula for the management of CMA. METHODS: In a phase III/IV prospective, multicentre, open-label, international study, infants and children with immunoglobulin E-mediated CMA were exposed to a diagnostic double-blinded, placebo-controlled food challenge with a new amino acid formula by Blemil Plus Elemental using Neocate as the placebo. If tolerant to it, the study formula was integrated into the patients' usual daily diet for 7 days. Efficacy on day 7 was assessed in terms of symptoms associated with CMA, amount of formula consumed, nutritional and energy intake, and anthropometric data. RESULTS: Thirty children (17 M and 13 F; median age, 1.58; range, 0.08-12.83 years) completed the open challenge and were able to consume the study formula for at least 7 days. No signs or symptoms of allergic reactions were recorded among children assuming either the test or the control formula, with a lower 95% one-sided confidence interval for the proportion of subjects who did not experience allergic reactions above 90%. Sixteen patient under the age of two continued with the optional extension phase. CONCLUSIONS: The study formula meets the American Academy of Pediatric criteria for hypoallergenicity and is well tolerated in short-term use. During optional phase, growth of the patients was not hindered by the study formula.

RESUMO

Most excitable cells, including gastrointestinal smooth muscle cells, express several types of K+channels. The aim of this study was to examine the types of K+ channels involved in the contractility of longitudinal smooth muscle of rabbit small intestinein vitro. Spontaneous contractions and KCl-stimulated contractions were reduced by atropine, phentolamine, propranolol, suramin, tetrodotoxin and indomethacin. The amplitude and tone of spontaneous contractions were increased by apamin, charybdotoxin, iberiotoxin, E4031, tetraetylammonium (TEA) and BaCl2. The frequency of contractions was reduced in the presence of apamin and TEA and increased by charybdotoxin. It was found that 4-aminopyridine increased the tone of spontaneous contractions and reduced the amplitude and frequency of contractions. Glibenclamide did not modify the amplitude, frequency or tone of contractions. KCl-stimulated contractions were increased by E4031, were not modified by apamin, glibenclamide, NS1619 or diazoxide, and were reduced by charybdotoxin, TEA, 4-aminopyridine or BaCl2. These results suggest that both Ca2+-activated K+ channels of small and high conductance, and HERG K+ channels and inward rectifier K+ channels participate in spontaneous contractions of small intestine. On the other hand, voltage-dependent K+ channels, HERG K+ channels, inward rectifier K+ channels and high conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels are involved in KCl-stimulated contractions (AU)
